CJ Cup – The Summit Club 2021 Overview
The Summit Club, developed by Discovery Land Co., which also owns the famous Madison Club and The Hideaway in La Quinta, has a rising membership even before the clubhouse and houses are finished initiation costs $200,000 so we can expect to see one of those most pristine courses all year on our screen next week. From the Tom Fazio-designed golf course, which opened last autumn, to all of the amenities on and around the course, this is a golf course community that is and will see to all of its members’ requirements, located in perhaps the finest location in the Las Vegas area. The world’s best golfers are in for a treat this week. It’s going to one of the most immaculate courses we see all year on our screens.
Fazio is well-known for designing outstanding golf courses that not only excel in terms of strategy and beauty, but are also extremely playable. That is certainly the case at The Summit Club, which, unlike other Vegas golf courses, has more parkland with a desert backdrop. In other words, there’s a lot of green on this 7,457-yard course.
There are spectacular vistas of the city of Las Vegas from the high tees and greens. Mountain peaks and mesas, as well as reflections of Red Rock Canyon National Park, can be seen on the opposite side, presenting a sharp contrast to the deep green turf and crystal-clear bunkers of this well groomed golf course.
This is a new course to the circuit but Tom Fazio has been the mastermind behind many set ups in 2021 and here is a few for those looking at tracks he has designed. Quail Hollow, Congaree Golf Club, Caves Valley host of the BMW, and Shadow Creek which was host to the CJ Cup in 2020.
5 Key Skills Set Required
- SG T2G – A brand new course for the players this week and a no cut event. I expect that this course will demand elite T2G performance, and to win these low scoring affairs, quite simply you need to be dialed in T2G. To win no cut events you need to have a solid T2G game. I will be looking for player who bring this with them, rather than those searching for it ahead of the event.
- Driving Distance – Looking at the data from other Fazio designed tracks we can clearly see that Driving Distance is of huge importance, Quail Hollow, Caves Valley, Congree GC all show a clear advantage for those above average off the tee, why would this new layout in the heart of Las Vegas be any different.
- SG Approach – Expect a low scoring affair this week, I want players who have a proven track record of hitting it close with their iron shots. The data shows that Fazio designed courses put a premium on approach play and this is expected to be the case this week at the immaculate Summit Club.
- GIR % – We can see from the data that hitting a high percentage of greens can be important factor at Fazio designed layouts, and this week appears to be no different.
- Par 5 Scoring – Looking back at Fazio designed events of the past like the BMW @ Caves Valley & Conway Farms , we see the importance of Par 5 scoring in determining the winning player. I expect the same this week on this Par 72 layout at over 7400 yards. So look for players who excel with Par 5 scoring our headline selection certainly stand out in this category.
