3M Open 2022 Betting Favorites

Media by Associated Press: Troy Merritt acknowledges the crowd after finishing the final round of the 3M Open golf tournament in Blaine, Minn., Sunday, July 25, 2021.

Because of all the travel involved, the tournaments before and after the Open Championship in Scotland can be a bit interesting. For example we saw J.T. Poston win the John Deere Classic with 40/1 odds and now find a very similar situation at the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota.

The 3M Open enters its fourth go-around, with Cameron Champ returning to defend his 2021 crown. There are three top 25 OWGR players in the field, and it’s no shocker they are the three biggest favorites to win this event. Let’s take a look at the top of the 3M Open betting field.

Tony Finau +1400

Finau had an OK visit to St. Andrews last weekend, finishing 28th at the Open Championship including a 66 on Sunday, but is all that travel going to hurt him as the premier name at the 3M Open?

Finau has a couple of top five finishes over his last five tournaments played, including a runner-up at the RBC Canadian Open and a T4 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, but this weekend is all about the intangibles of recovery and being jet lagged.

Hideki Matsuyama +1600

Matsuyama also played in the Open Championship last weekend, finishing -2 which was only good for 68th place. It’s been a whirlwind couple months for Matsuyama, who over his last five tournaments placed 60th at the PGA Championship, got DQ’d at the Memorial, and missed the cut at the Scottish Open – but he also finished fourth at the U.S. Open.

Who knows what to expect from the 2021 Masters champion this weekend in the Twin Cities.

Sung-jae Im +2000

Oddsmakers like Im as the third highest favorite in this watered down field despite the fact that he’s missed the cut at the U.S. Open and the Scottish Open and finished 81st at the Open Championship over his last three events.

Of course Im has the intangibles to compete in 3M Open betting, ranking in the top 15 in the PGA in GIR percentage, Eagles (holes per), shots gained around the green, and shots gained tee-to-green. Im is #24 in the OWGR rankings.

Adam Hadwin +2200

Shooting a 73 on Saturday last year in 3M Open wagering doomed any chance Hadwin had in mind for a win. Instead he finished in sixth, four strokes off Champ’s pace. Hadwin still has some value for the weekend not only because of last year’s strong showing, but because he’s the highest odds player who didn’t play in the Open Championship last weekend and will be rejuvenated.

Cameron Davis +2500

Cameron Champ won here last year. Cameron Smith and Cameron Young finished 1-2 at the Open Championship and Cameron Tringale was leading the Scottish Open heading into the weekend after firing a first round 61. It appears Cameron is the most powerful name in golf right now.

Davis finished eighth at the John Deere Classic and sixth at the Barracuda Classic in his last two tournaments so he’s playing solid golf heading to the Twin Cities.
