We are now past another major tournament in the year as the PGA Championship just finished up this past weekend. The winner of that event was Justin Thomas, who at five-under made it into a playoff where he was able to win the three-hole aggregate playoff. We now look toward the Charles Schwab Challenge, where we will see some very familiar names.
Players such as Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Speith, Viktor Hovland, and Collin Morikawa all headline the event. It is a lighter event in terms of superstars, but even still we will see some very good golf. Below we take a look at some of the odds and give our favorites to hold the trophy at the end of the week.
The Favorites
Scottie Scheffler +1100
Justin Thomas +1200
Jordan Speith +1400
Collin Morikawa +1600
Viktor Hovland +2000
Max Homa +2800
Sam Burns +3000
Im Sung-Jae +3300
Abraham Ancer +3500
Viktor Hovland
Hovland is one of our favorite bets to win this weekend. He burst onto the scene just three years ago and has won three events since then. He is now the seventh-ranked golfer in the world. He is one of the most consistent players on the tour and he has improved the holes in his game each year that he has been playing. He has posted three top-10s and two top-5s in the last few months so he has really been hitting a stride.
This course really does play into his strengths as well, so I would not be surprised to see him go low multiple times throughout the weekend. At +2000 odds I feel like this is one of the best bets that you can make this weekend as he has around a 10% chance of winning the event.
Scottie Scheffler
Sheffler struggled mightily at the PGA Championship and that is something that we are not accustomed to seeing from him. I think that we will get a bounce back from him this weekend, and he will play well. He is the current odds favorite at +1100, and I don’t think that you can go wrong with those odds for one of the best players in the country, no matter how he played the week prior.
Justin Thomas
Thomas is fresh off of a week where he faced a seven-shot deficit and won the PGA Championship in a playoff. If there is anything like having momentum on the golf course, Thomas has it. Thomas plays really well in stretches and has shown to be a hot and cold golfer before. This looks like it is one of those hot streaks as he has strung together a few really nice performances.
With odds sitting at +1200 for him this weekend, we think those are great odds to get in with him. No one played better than him last weekend, and with him playing back-to-back weeks, he should be fresh and ready to go. Thomas provides some good value for this weekend.
