FedEx St. Jude 2022 Betting Underdogs

Media by Associated Press: Cameron Young signals after hitting his second shot on the 14th fairway during the first round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic golf tournament, Thursday, July 28, 2022, in Detroit.

After four withdrawals, it’s 121 of the top 125 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings in action this weekend at TPC Southwind in Memphis.

That means there’s a lot of big names at the top of the favorites list, but also that there’s some really good golfers down the board.

The top two finishers in the three playoff events last season were Tony Finau-Cameron Smith at the Northern Trust, Patrick Cantlay-Bryson DeChambeau at the BMW Championship, and Cantlay-Jon Rahm at the Tour Championship.

This might not be a great weekend for the Scott Piercy’s and the Luke List’s of the Tour, but let’s try to find some of the betting value to add to your card. We should be in for an exciting tournament!

Cameron Young +2500

Nobody has had a more meteoric rise this year than Young, who ended 2021 ranked 134 in the OWGR but is now 17th heading into FedEx St. Jude betting. It would only be fitting that Young has a solid playoff run considering all the heartbreak he’s had to endure while looking for his first Tour win.

Young has five runner-up finishes in his rookie year and has come in third two other times. He’s finished in second at the Open Championship, and the Rocket Mortgage Classic in his last two tournaments played, and having played at the Rocket Mortgage Classic gives him an advantage as a lot of the top players haven’t been in a tournament since St. Andrews.

Sam Burns +2800

That’s nice 28/1 odds for a guy that comes in ranked third in the FedEx Cup standings and with a great course history after losing in a playoff at TPC Southwind last season.

Burns has three wins and eight top 10 finishes on the season and is glad to be done with links courses after finishing 66th at the Scottish Open and 42nd at the Open Championship.

Webb Simpson +10000

Simpson likely won’t be on many betting cards this weekend, considering he had a great course history at Sedgefield C.C. last weekend but had to withdraw before going into the weekend.

Simpson was also the betting favorite last month at the John Deere Classic and missed the cut. His best finish in the past four events is 69th at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

When everybody is jumping off, it’s the perfect time to jump on, and Simpson does have another nice course history at TPC Southwind with a top 15 finish in three straight years. He was 13th in GIR here last year and was sixth with a driving accuracy of 71.4%.

Chez Reavie +12500

Reavie has a win at the Barracuda Championship this year – albeit in a watered-down field – but he has great ROI for one of the FedEx St. Jude’s betting underdogs because of his course history.

The 40-year-old has finished in the top six in three of his last four events at TPC Southwind, and he’s also +950 for a top 10 outing in 2022.
