Top 3 Early Bets to Win 2023 Masters

Media by Associated Press: Scottie Scheffler reacts to losing his match with Sebastian Munoz, of Colombia, on the 17th green during their singles match at the Presidents Cup golf tournament at the Quail Hollow Club, Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, in Charlotte, N.C.

There are just five events left on the Fall leg of the 2023 PGA Tour, and once the calendar flips, it’s time to start turning the focus toward Augusta. 2023 Masters bets have been available pretty much since Scottie Scheffler donned the green jacket in April.

Even though we won’t know how players will be performing in the lead-up to the Masters, that’s why betting on the event so early provides the best odds. When you consider the LIV guys (currently) eligible for to play since the Masters is a major and not sanctioned by the PGA, there really are a lot of ways to go betting-wise here:

Rory McIlroy +1100

Is this the year McIlroy finally lands his elusive first green jacket? The 33-year-old has climbed back to the top of the OWGR upending Scheffler, who edged him out for last year’s win at Augusta. McIlroy shot a final round 64 in 2021 to finish 2nd at Augusta for the first time in his career. His previous best had been a fourth in 2015.

McIlroy seemed to be very comfortable in his game towards the tail end of the 2022 season. He won the RBC Canadian Open, which kicked off a run of a fifth at the U.S. Open, a third at the Open Championship, and then a victory at the TOUR Championship to claim the FedEx Cup. He started off the fall leg of the 2022/23 season by successfully depending on his CJ Cup win from a season ago in a field that featured 15 of the top 20 golfers in the world.

Dustin Johnson +1600

If you want to see golf media, Twitter spontaneously combusts, then just have a LIV golfer take home the 2023 championship. Cam Smith might be the most obvious choice as he is +1200, still third in the OWGR despite leaving the PGA at the end of August, has captured his first major with an Open Championship win, and was third at Augusta last season.

Dustin Johnson also has some value as the 2023 Masters winner; Johnson was crowned the individual winner of the inaugural LIV season and won the green jacket in 2020. Johnson finished 12th at the 2022 Masters, but that’s six straight times coming in the top 12, which shows he has a good feel for Augusta in what will be his 12th Masters event.

Cameron Young +4000

A nice, somewhat outside-the-box pick for the 2023 Masters with some longer odds is Cameron Young. We’re still waiting for his maiden victory, but there was no non-winner that was better in 2021 than Young, who had five runner-up finishes and came in third place twice.

It would be wild for Young to get his first Tour victory at the Masters, but of course, he also has plenty of events between now and April to pick up his first. Once Young figures out how to win a tournament, he’s going to be dangerous, because he’s already been close in what was his rookie season.
