We head into the last PGA Tour tournament of the season as the FedEx Cup Playoffs wrap up at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta for the tour Championship.
This is a unique event where Scottie Scheffler goes into the weekend already at -10 due to him being #1 in the standings; thus, it’s no shocker that he’s an overwhelming +250 favorite in the finale.
Tour Championship favorites are probably the way to go this weekend, not just because of the staggered scoring before the first club hit but also because it’s just a 30-person field – dwindled down from the 70 entrants in the BMW Championship last week.
The longest shot for the weekend is Tom Hoge at +30000, but he’s also already ten strokes down heading into the tournament. It’s going to be a big name coming out on top this week, and here are the Tour Championship favorites:
Scottie Scheffler +250
Scheffler has had a great year, and now he gets to head into the last tournament of the regular season already at -10.
Scheffler was able to climb back into the top spot in the FedEx Cup standings not just because of his third-place finish at the BMW Championship but also because he was aided by former #1 Will Zalatoris having to withdraw on Saturday last week, which dropped him to third place in the standings.
Patrick Cantlay +400
Cantlay is coming off successfully defending his BMW Championship win from a year ago, and now he has a chance at becoming the first back-to-back FedEx Cup winner.
Cantlay went wire-to-wire at East Lake last year and has the familiarity of the moment as well as the course working to his advantage.
Xander Schauffele +700
Schauffele will start the weekend at -6, which already puts him four strokes behind Scheffler, but he still has value.
Schauffele finished third at the BMW Championship last weekend, the third time he’s come within the top three in his last five tournaments. He won at East Lake in 2017 and since then has come in seventh, second, second, and fifth at the course.
Rory McIlroy +1200
It’s an interesting weekend to take McIlroy, as he’s got the pressure off from being the betting favorite at the FedEx St. Jude Championship and BMW Championship the last two weekends, but he’s also starting the tournament six strokes back from Scheffler.
The pressure should be subdued, and McIlroy also has a nice course history at East Lake, where he won in 2016 and 2019. The only question is if he can overcome the starting deficit.
Will Zalatoris +1200
Zalatoris is the big wild card of the weekend because we just don’t know about his health. The FedEx St. Jude Championship winner had to withdraw on Saturday at the BMW Championship because of a back injury, but he starts off (if he can play) at -7 this weekend, just three strokes off the pace of Scheffler.
There aren’t going to be a ton of bettors taking Zalatoris this week with the injury news, which makes him a great under-the-radar contrarian play.
