The Wyndham Championship is the final regular season tournament event before the FedEx Cup Playoffs begin next week. Many of the big name golfers are not making the trek to Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, NC, as they rest up for the three week playoff push.
Some golfers however are using this weekend as a tune-up for next week’s St. Jude Classic, here is a look at who oddsmakers have as Wyndham betting favorites.
Shane Lowry +1600
Lowry is ranked #24 in OWGR and comes into the weekend as the Wyndham betting favorite at 16/1. Tony Finau has been a top two betting favorite the last two weeks and he’s cashed at the 3M Open and the Rocket Mortgage Classic so it could be a nice tournament for Lowry.
A win this weekend in Greensboro would be Lowry’s first victory of the season as he’s been in a drought since the 2019 Open Championship. Lowry does have a runner-up at the Honda Classic and finished third at the Masters and the RBC Heritage so he’s been in striking distance.
Sungjae Im +1800
When we last saw Im he was falling just short of Finau at the 3M Open, finishing in second place at -14. It was a nice bounce back after missing the cut at the U.S. Open and the Genesis Scottish Open and then finishing 81st at the Open Championship.
Im has some value at Sedgefield C.C. as he has finished in the top 25 in all three of his appearances at the Wyndham Championship. He was sixth in 2019, ninth in 2020, and 24th in 2021 so his results have been getting progressively worse each entry.
Will Zalatoris +1800
Will Zalatoris is in the midst of what could be a long stretch of golf as he played last week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic finishing 20th. Zalatoris expects to be in contention the next three weeks as he’s currently #11 in the FedEx Cup rankings so he is finishing the year full bore.
Zalatoris shot under 70 in all four rounds at the Wyndham last season, ending in 29th at -10. He missed the cut in his only other appearance in this tournament in 2018. .
Billy Horschel +2200
Horschel is the second highest ranked OWGR golfer in this weekend’s field but he’s got the fourth highest odds at 22/1. He should be well rested after not playing since the Open Championship where he finished T21.
Horschel missed the cut in three of his previous four tournaments prior to the trip to St. Andrews, but the cut he made ended up being a win at the Memorial.
Webb Simpson +2200
Simpson was the betting favorite at the John Deere Classic but he couldn’t live up to the hype and shot a 71-70 to miss the cut. Simpson went over to the Open Championship and also missed the cut and then finished 69th last week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Simpson is 126 in the FedEx Cup rankings with the top 125 moving onto the playoffs so he needs a big weekend in North Carolina. Simpson won the Wyndham back in 2011 but has also been in the top three in four of his last five events here.
