Rocket Mortgage Classic Betting Favorites

Media by Associated Press: Brandon Hagy plays during the third round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic golf tournament, Saturday, July 3, 2021, at the Detroit Golf Club in Detroit.

As many of the world’s top golfers continue to recover from a couple weeks in Scotland for the Open Championship as well as prepare for the upcoming FedEd Cup playoffs, the Rocket Mortgage Classic is another tournament with a somewhat diluted field.

Make no mistake, some big names will still be in attendance at the Detroit Golf Club this weekend and there are a few favorites that are going to be very popular among bettors. Let’s check out who oddsmakers have at the top for Rocket Mortgage classic betting favorites:

Patrick Cantlay +1200

Cantlay is the Rocket Mortgage Classic betting favorite this week as the #4 golfer in the OWGR rankings. He came close in his trip across the pond, finishing T4 at the Scottish Open and T8 at the Open Championship but still hasn’t been able to add to a team win with Xander Schauffele at the Zurich Classic to his 2022 win total.

One thing working against Cantlay is that he’s never played at the Detroit Golf Club. This tournament was usually held around the first weekend in July but has been moved around in the schedule a bit this season.

Tony Finau +1200

Finau comes to Detroit red hot after making up a five stroke comeback to win the 3M Open last weekend. Finau has long been known as the just miss guy with 10 runner-up finishes in his career, but can the momentum of his third career victory carry him in the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Finau was definitely in the zone at TPC Twin Cities shooting 67-68-65-67. He also had mixed results in his lone event at the Detroit Golf Club, shooting a 66 on Saturday but a 74 in the final round to finish 53rd in the 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Cameron Young +1600

Nobody has made more headway than Young this season, finishing 2020-21 as the 134th ranked golfer in the OWGR before climbing all the way to 19th this season. We last saw Young with a second place finish at the Open Championship, his fourth runner-up this year.

This is a great opportunity for a first Tour win for Young, who is 7th on the Tour in driving distance and 15th in scoring average.

Will Zalatoris +1600

Zalatoris is still in search for his first Tour victory after posting runner-ups at the U.S. Open and Farmer’s Insurance Open. He didn’t make a whole lot of noise at the Open Championship though, finishing 28th.

Zalatoris would like to rebound from a poor weekend at the Rocket Mortgage Classic last year when he posted a 75-76 score on Saturday and Sunday to finish last among those that made the cut at 77th. At the very least he picked up some experience for this course.

Max Homa +2200

Homa has a couple wins this year at the Wells Fargo and the Fortinet so he has some nice value at 22/1. Homa has played the Rocket Mortgage Classic in 2019 (42nd) and in 2021 (25th) so he’s got some familiarity at the Detroit Golf Club.
